One common question that comes up is how long should a training session last? The truth is though it is a difficult question, there are some guidelines for how long to train based on the person’s training goals.
For example if one has been sedentary and their goal is to get in shape with weight loss as a primary objective then they should start at 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day (not including warm-up or cool down). However, for others who are trying to build muscle mass, a session may last up to one hour.
A personal trainer will work with the client and figure out what their goals are then adjust how long they train accordingly.
Why is it important to have a plan for your workouts
The reason it is important to have a plan for your workouts is so that you do not waste time doing exercises that are ineffective or take too long.
When does your body need rest days from exercise
You need rest days from exercise to allow for recovery.
When it is time to take a break, your body will tell you through pain or fatigue. The best thing would be for the client and trainer to talk about this together because every person has different needs.
How can you make sure you’re not overdoing it and risking injury or burnout
To prevent overdoing it and risking injury or burnout, you need to listen to your body.
If something doesn’t feel right then stop doing the exercise before trying again another time.
You should not judge how much rest day(s) you will need by how hard you are training on any given day.
